The basic method of new plastic part design

injection molding can process thermoplastic or thermosetting plastics into various plastic parts with complex shapes. When designing plastic parts, we must consider the use performance, processing performance, appearance and other issues of plastic parts. The commonly used design methods mainly include:

(1) sequential design method

sequential design method is a design based on the analysis of market needs and product use requirements. Designers should analyze the overall shape, appearance and feel of plastic parts in detail, especially pay attention to ergonomics, aesthetics and other issues, and then put forward the design outline of plastic parts, and then select raw materials and formulate process flow according to this design, so as to ensure that the products can meet the final use requirements. For example, design a computer chassis, design the shape of the chassis, and push the garbage along the ocean to the center of the platform. Then determine the wall thickness of the chassis through theoretical analysis and sample experiment, and design the structure and number of stiffeners according to the load of the parts placed in the chassis. The mold design can be started only after the plastic part design is completed. If the shape of some plastic parts proposed by the designer is not easy to mold, or even cannot be molded, then the structural design of the plastic parts should be modified, and the production can be carried out only after consulting and changing the design with relevant personnel

(2) parallel design method

the sequential design method described above is a more commonly used method in plastic part design, but it still has some shortcomings. It costs a lot of money and time to change the design from top to bottom, and there is little communication between personnel engaged in product design and mold design, which makes mold design more complex and manufacturing costs increase

the parallel design method enables the personnel of different design departments to strengthen collaboration and cooperation, and change a single independent design into a joint design. In all links of market research, plastic part design, mold design and production, all departments can communicate design ideas at any time, so as not to wait until the mold is completed or production is in progress like sequential design to find problems, which can improve quality, save time and minimize potential problems

Another advantage of the parallel design method is that, in addition to the manufacturing and processing procedures that cannot be started before the design is completed, it can also adjust and arrange various forces under unified leadership, so that all design and engineering technicians can start work at the same time, and can accurately complete the production and processing process while ensuring product quality. For example, when the shape and geometric dimensions of plastic parts are determined, mold designers and production workshops can also choose the corresponding equipment
